A place along the powerlines.

It’s been a considerable amount of time since I made any updates here. That doesn’t reflect how busy I’ve kept.

I’m working on a collection of paintings and photographs of Red-tailed hawks. Over the last year I’ve constructed a number of panels and painted a variety of Red-tailed hawks subspecies from around North America.

To aid my work and add to collection of raptor research data Ive taken a number of photos. It comes as no surprise that utility poles and man-made structures is the most common perch for RTHAs in the greater Chicagoland region (Where isn’t it?).

Illinois is home to primarily one subspecies. Buteo jamaicensis borealis. Those make up the majority of my paintings and Buteo jamaicensis calurus (the western subspecies) is also strongly represented. Abieticola and Kriderii will be worked on as well in the coming weeks.
